japanese ikebana workshop

Bring the living art of ikebana to your event

Looking to incorporate ikebana into your event? It’s a great fit for Japanese-themed celebrations, ESEA Heritage Month, or any event that calls for something calm and beautiful. Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging — also known as kadō, “the way of flowers” — gives guests a hands-on, mindful glimpse into Japanese aesthetics: balance, restraint and a careful eye for the season. We partner with professional florists to deliver this workshop, and can tailor it to your budget — from a lite, taster version to a full hands-on session. Send us your request below!

How to organise an ikebana workshop –

format

Ikebana is often offered as one of the activities within a Japanese-themed celebration — for example, to mark the Sakura Matsuri (cherry blossom) season. Depending on your event scope and budget, we can design a lite version — a short, eye-catching demonstration or decoration — or a full workshop where every guest arranges their own seasonal piece.

price

Ikebana could be part of our overall event quote, but as a reference: a lite version is around £40pp, and a full workshop is around £120pp.

venue

This workshop needs tables and chairs so each guest can arrange comfortably at their own space. We bring everything else — flowers, containers and tools — so you just need to provide the room.

DURATION

When offered as part of a wider celebration, guests typically spend 30 minutes or more on their arrangement. For a longer, standalone session, we can extend this to 1.5 hours — just let us know what you have in mind.

Why Choose our Ikebana workshop –

expert florist partners

We partner with professional florists who bring real technical skill and a careful eye for seasonal flowers to every arrangement. It means your guests get proper hands-on guidance from someone who works with flowers every day — a genuine taste of floristry, not just craft instruction.

part of your celebration

Ikebana works beautifully as one element within a larger event — paired with other Japanese or wider ESEA crafts, food or performance for a fuller cultural celebration. Whether it’s a short decorative taster or a full hands-on session, it fits neatly alongside everything else you’re planning.

one stop shop event partner

Our full time team are experienced event organisers. We bring together event facilitators and craft instructors, so you don’t need to source multiple suppliers yourself. On the day, we handle setup, materials and introductions end to end — you just need to book the room.

ikebana 生け花

Ikebana literally means “living flowers” — also known as kadō, “the way of flowers”. Established as a formal art in the Muromachi period around 700 years ago, it grew out of Buddhist flower offerings into a discipline of its own, traditionally built around a triangular harmony of heaven, earth and humanity. Unlike a full, abundant bouquet, ikebana values restraint — asymmetry, negative space and the season at hand — so that a few careful stems can say more than a hundred.

It can be. We offer a lite version — a short, decorative taster suited to a wider celebration — as well as a full workshop where every guest arranges their own seasonal piece from start to finish. Let us know what fits your event and we’ll advise on timing and cost.

We use fresh, seasonal flowers and foliage for each arrangement. Where possible we can lean into your event’s colour scheme or theme — just let us know if you have something specific in mind when you enquire.

Yes — you’ll take your finished flowers home with you. The vases and containers are ours, so those stay with us for future workshops.

Not at all. Ikebana is beginner-friendly by design — our instructors guide everyone step by step, so guests leave with an arrangement they’re proud of, whatever their starting point.

It works well either way. Most guests arrange individually, side by side, which makes for a calm and focused activity — but we can also build in a shared display or group element if you’d like more of a collaborative feel.

Depending on your event, we can bring in additional elements — like Japanese food tasting or other arts and crafts — for a fuller cultural immersion. Just share your event idea with us, and we’ll advise on what’s possible.

Yes. Dear Asia holds public liability insurance for all workshops, and we’re happy to share our risk assessment and insurance documentation for your internal approval process — just let us know when you enquire.
