Gold Foil Printing Workshop

let’s decorate your festival with gold

Gold foil printing exists across many cultures, historically used to show off wealth and access to gold — think gilded Buddhist statues, imperial palaces and furniture. To celebrate special occasions, we bring this intricate craft to your event. It’s a workshop designed for complete beginners, with a genuinely satisfying golden piece to show for it at the end. Check out our craft options below, and let’s discuss.

Gold Foil Printing Workshop In London

how to organise?

FORMAT

Our gold foil printing workshop is often offered as one of the activities within a festive celebration — for example, gilding the 福 (fu) character for good fortune or other festive motifs onto cards using gold leaf and glue, then finishing with a wooden picture frame so the final piece feels genuinely impressive and premium.

price

We typically quote for the whole event rather than a set fee per person for gold foil printing alone — but as a guide, expect around £25pp for a picture frame craft.

set up

We bring everything needed to set up your space for gold foil printing — for example, gold leaf, glue, brushes and card stock, ready to go. All materials included.

DURATION

From our experience, each person spends around 20–30 minutes exploring the art of gold foil printing when it’s offered alongside other activities.

Why choose us?

who we are

We’re cultural educators at heart, and craft teachers by trade. Dear Asia workshops exist to share ESEA heritage in a way people can actually feel — through their hands, not just a slideshow. It’s the same care and pride that goes into every workshop and event, whatever the craft.

not just craft

Our workshops work for every skill level — instructors give hands-on help throughout, so everyone leaves with a finished piece they’re proud of. But the craft is only half of it. Underneath is the story: the festivals, beliefs and traditions that ESEA communities have carried for generations, and that we bring to life in the room with you.

one stop shop event partner

Our full time team are experienced event organisers. We bring together event facilitators and craft instructors, so you don’t need to source multiple suppliers yourself. On the day, we handle setup, materials and introductions end to end — you just need to book the room.

Tiejin 贴金

Tiejin is the Chinese art of applying gold leaf to surfaces, first documented in the Song Dynasty’s building codes. It was traditionally used to gild Buddhist statues, temple beams and imperial palaces, giving sacred and royal spaces their shimmer.

Yes — the £25pp guide price for our picture frame craft includes the wooden frame, so guests leave with a fully finished, ready-to-display piece.

We use imitation gold leaf (composition leaf) rather than genuine gold — it gives the same brilliant, luxurious finish at a price that makes sense for a hands-on workshop.

We apply a protective varnish as part of the workshop, which helps prevent the imitation gold leaf from tarnishing, so your finished piece keeps its shine well after the event.

Gold leaf is delicate to handle, which is part of the appeal — but our instructors guide every guest through the process step by step, so it’s genuinely achievable, not just for those with a steady hand.

Yes — we can create a personalised design with a name, initial or company logo instead of a standard festive motif. This does need a longer lead time of 4+ weeks, so let us know as early as possible if you’d like a bespoke piece for your event.
