Lantern making workshop
Bring light and celebration to your workplace from £36PP
We love delivering this lantern making workshop because the lanterns are simply beautiful — and it’s the craft behind so many of Asia’s most important festivals, lighting up Lunar New Year, the Lantern Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations. This workshop works well as a standalone activity or as part of a wider festive celebration. Our lanterns are beginner-friendly, with design options in organic, original materials like washi paper, wood, and glass.

format
We run this workshop at our school twice a year, for the Lantern Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival — two occasions when beautiful lanterns light up the festive spirit. We also run a good number of corporate workshops around these celebrations each year, and it’s one that both we and our clients love.
price
Our public lantern making workshop is £36pp, which includes a festive food tasting. For corporate events, unless you’re booking lantern making as a standalone workshop, we typically quote for the whole event — this can include a few additional craft options, which often helps lower the cost per person.
venue
This workshop can be held anywhere with tables and chairs. Our team always arrives with plenty of time before the event to decorate and prepare the space.
DURATION
Most lanterns take 20–40 minutes to make. Depending on the format of your event, we’ll advise on the best option and make sure everyone gets the support they need to finish their lantern.
Why Choose our Lantern Making workshop –
who we are
We’re cultural educators at heart, and craft teachers by trade. Dear Asia workshops exist to share ESEA heritage in a way people can actually feel — through their hands, not just a slideshow. It’s the same care and pride that goes into every workshop and event, whatever the craft.
not just craft
Our workshops work for every skill level — instructors give hands-on help throughout, so everyone leaves with a finished piece they’re proud of. But the craft is only half of it. Underneath is the story: the festivals, beliefs and traditions that ESEA communities have carried for generations, and that we bring to life in the room with you.
one stop shop event partner
Our full time team are experienced event organisers. We bring together event facilitators and craft instructors, so you don’t need to source multiple suppliers yourself. On the day, we handle setup, materials and introductions end to end — you just need to book the room.
Lanterns 灯笼
Lanterns have lit up Chinese celebrations for over 2,000 years, most famously at the Lantern Festival (元宵节), which marks the close of Lunar New Year. Traditionally made from bamboo frames and silk or paper, denglong symbolise good fortune, unity and the triumph of light over darkness — a tradition echoed in lantern customs across many other Asian cultures too.
